We exist to protect
every animal in Sarawak
"To prevent cruelty to animals, promote their welfare, and foster a culture of compassion and responsibility in Sarawak."
SSPCA Kuching was founded on one simple principle: every animal deserves to live free from suffering. Since 1959, we have built the infrastructure, partnerships, and community trust to make that principle a reality across Sarawak.
We are not a government agency — we are a community organisation powered by members, volunteers, donors, and adopters who believe that how we treat animals reflects who we are as a society.
Today, SSPCA Kuching operates the only dedicated animal welfare shelter in Kuching, runs a neutering programme, advocates for stronger animal protection laws, and educates the next generation of responsible pet owners.

Six decades of protecting lives
From a small group of concerned citizens to Sarawak's foremost animal welfare organisation — our history is one of persistence, compassion, and community.
Founded in Kuching
SSPCA Kuching was established by a group of concerned citizens and animal lovers who recognised the urgent need for organised animal welfare in Sarawak. Registered as a formal NGO under Malaysian law.
Shelter & rescue operations grow
The organisation expanded its rescue capabilities and established its first dedicated shelter facility. Partnerships with local authorities and veterinarians formalized rescue response procedures.
Neutering programme launched
In response to the growing stray population in Kuching, SSPCA launched its first structured neutering and trap-neuter-return programme — one of the first in Sarawak.
Penrissen Road shelter
SSPCA established its permanent shelter at 6½ Mile Penrissen Road — a dedicated facility capable of housing hundreds of animals at a time with proper veterinary care on-site.
Education & community outreach
SSPCA launched school education programmes, community workshops, and its social media presence — reaching tens of thousands of Sarawakians with animal welfare messaging.
Digital transformation
Online adoption listings, digital donation platforms, virtual volunteer onboarding, and a redesigned website — bringing SSPCA's mission to a new generation of Sarawakians.

What SSPCA actually does
We are far more than a shelter. SSPCA Kuching runs six interconnected programmes that together form a complete animal welfare ecosystem for Sarawak.

Rescue & Rehabilitation
24/7 response to reports of injured, abused, or abandoned animals across Kuching. Our trained volunteers and officers respond to hundreds of calls every year.

Shelter & Adoption
Our Penrissen Road shelter provides safe housing, veterinary care, and socialisation for animals awaiting adoption. All animals are health-checked, vaccinated, and neutered before going home.

Neutering Programme
Our subsidised trap-neuter-return (TNR) programme targets community stray populations — humanely reducing numbers without culling, in partnership with local councils.

Education & Advocacy
School visits, public talks, community workshops, and engagement with Sarawak state government — pushing for stronger animal welfare legislation and responsible ownership culture.

Veterinary Care
On-site medical treatment for rescued animals, regular vaccination drives for shelter residents, and partnerships with Kuching's veterinary community for specialist referrals.
